Next-Generation BMW i7 is an electric future tech and its prototype will give you a brief detail about it. BMW is really rising up to launch its answer to the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQS and Jaguar XJ electric luxury saloons. As the all-new i7 has been spotted testing for the first time.
Next-Generation BMW i7 Overview
In order to be sold on the same plane with the petrol, diesel, and hybrid version of the next-generation 7 Series from 2022. The i7 will sit atop BMW’s flexible CLAR platform. And also likely get its power from a variation of the electric powertrain featured in the new iX3 SUV.
Meanwhile, the i7 features BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive system. This comprises of a rear-mounted motor that drives the rear axle only through a single-speed gearbox. And obtains its power from an 80kWh lithium-ion battery for 285 miles of WLTP-certified range.
However, the upcoming i7 is likely to pack significantly more power. This is to bring it into line with its Mercedes and Jaguar rivals. And both of these rivals will place a heavy result on performance and offer a range of nearer 400 miles.
Currently, BMW claimed the electric 7 series would be “the top, most powerful” model in the line-up.
Meanwhile suggesting it could be offered as a performance variant that would approach the V12-powered 760Li’s 601bhp output.
What is Likely to be Expected in the Interior
A short glimpse of the interior suggests that the i7 will feature a cabin layout. Which will be similar to BMW’s iNext electric SUV. With a curved digital gauge cluster, and a prominent central infotainment screen. However, this prototype doesn’t appear to figure the larger car’s polygonal steering wheel.
The i7 is likely to offer similar autonomous driving functionalities to the iNext. Which is however described as the first BMW which the driver is not required to take care of the driving task.
Its Similar Styling
Under heavy wraps, the i7 prototype however gives clues as to the styling of the seventh-gen 7 series. BMW product boss “Peter Henrich” recent affirmation states that customers want “strong characters and bold design”. However, those on the electric model will be blanked off, as is customary.
Meanwhile, the next-generation 7 Series proportions are however also familiar with a long wheelbase. And also extended front and rear overhangs and low ride height.
In addition, the i7 forms part of BMW’s drive to electrify a quarter of its fleet by 2021.
