The Hyundai Kona was introduced in June 2017. Its appearance ushered in a new design language for its high-riding vehicles. But today, Hyundai is however updating that look for the 2022 model year. Meanwhile, the 2022 Hyundai Kona gets a new exterior design and some tweaks in the interior design. Even changes were made to the available powertrains and the new N-Line package.
2022 Hyundai Kona Overview
However, the most significant changes were made on the outside. Hyundai has reworked the vehicle’s entire look, making a lot of adjustments to the rear and front fascias. They continued the split-headlight design of the current Kona, but it sits on an entirely new face. It has a new grille, updated DRLs, new headlights, a repositioned Hyundai badge, new intakes, and more. However, you should know that it is a sharp upgrade over its predecessor’s look. There are also similar changes at the rear with new taillight graphics, redesigned bumper, and updated lighting elements.
For the Kona N-Line package, changes made are more significant, with wider air intakes. And also a prominent rear diffuser, body-colored wheel arches, a dual-tip exhaust, unique 18-inch wheels, and more. The badge stays in the grille. And now there are three “nostrils” above it on the leading edge of the hood that aids in enhancing the sportier appearance.
Even though the Hyundai Kona N-Line pack is available across the Kona’s range of powertrains, if you opt for the N-Line with the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) will receive “specific steering tuning”.
On the inside, Hyundai has tweaked the center console and dashboard design. Thereby giving the appearance of an airy and quite spacious layout, which is however helped by the electronic parking brake. There is a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and also a brand new optional 10.25-inch infotainment display. Meanwhile, the standard screen grows from 7 to 8 inches, also.
Engine and Transmission
The 2022 Hyundai Kona comes with a turbocharged 1.6 ltr inline four-cylinder engine that escalates 195 horsepower. And that’s 20 hp more compared to the current Kona which is 175 hp. And is also currently offered on Limited and Ultimate trims.
However, there hasn’t been any mention of the full-blown Kona N that we are expecting. But news of that model could be later.
