The starting price of the Tesla Model Y electric SUV has been lowered by $3,000.00. And this is not the first car to which Tesla has lowered its price.
The Lowering Of The Tesla Model Y electric SUV
The Model Y is not just an SUV but an electric SUV of which its shipping started in March. Tesla reduced the prices of several of its electric cars with high-end vehicles like the Model X SUV and Model S sedan in May.
The new price arrives as automakers try to attract the attention of the buyer’s economic fallout caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The long-range all-wheel-drive version of the car is now stated with a purchase price of $49,990.00 or $3,000.00 less than $52,990.00 of which it was formerly stated. Electrek was the first to report the car’s new pricing which was over the weekend.
And also the starting price of the Model Y performance has also been lowered. It will be coming in at $59,990.00 instead of its previous which is $60,990.00.
Though it is still unclear about the reason behind the decrease in the price. And also four months after the delivery commenced.
But one thing is for sure, he did it to increase sales. The two models are being rated at EPA estimated range of 315 miles.
The rest of Tesla’s lineup also have their starting prices cut. Vehicles like the Model X SUV and the Model S sedan have their prices cut by $5,000.00. And also the pricing of the Model 3 sedan has its price cut by $2,000.00.
The company said in April that “Unlike its other models, the Model Y has been quite profitable since the start of its production”.
This is kind of a critical situation for the company. As its higher pricing vehicles like the Model X and Model S are losing customers to the Model 3 and the Model Y.
Tesla Breaking Of The Covvid-19 Restrictions To Aid Sales
Tesla managed to deliver 90,650 cars in the second quarter of 2020 despite the Covid-19 restrictions. Such figure beat expectations and as a result of it, the company’s share price rapidly increased.
This year alone, the price is almost 270% with Friday’s close arriving at $1544.65. Exceeding the likes of the Volkswagen Group and Toyota which delivers millions of cars each per quarter.
Overview of the Tesla Model Y
The Model Y comes in a price point that is much lower. It is over $30,000.00 cheaper than the base Model X. The Model Y mixes blinding acceleration with a practical range just like other Teslas.
It is capable of reaching up to 60 Mph in 3.5 seconds and even at that is able to manage 315 Miles between charges.
However, the Model Y doesn’t seem as well built as its rivals just like the BMW X3 M or the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63.
Even though they are also cheaper and capable crossovers like the Hyundai Kona EV.
Meanwhile, we shouldn’t be surprised if the Model Y turns out to be the Top-selling vehicle of Tesla. Taking over from the highly successful Model 3 sedan as it is really hiking in sales.

You cant easily differentiate between the Model X and the latter especially in pictures. The most noticeable difference between the Model Y and the Model X is that the Model Y does away with the Model X’s slim grille. Rather it featured a smooth over front fascia that is relatively aligned with the Model 3 sedan.
The most confusing spot when it comes to differentiating the two is from the back. The Long Range of the Model Y has 19-inch alloy wheels and 20-inch items available. While the 19-inches wheels of the performance can be upgraded to 21 as part of the performance upgrade package.
Both trim levels feature power-folding side mirrors, and LED fog lamps, and a tinted glass roof.
